Like I said,It's a 1974 Kawasaki G5,It ran great until I fired it up the other day, then it made a clicking noise, then shut off,and i can't get it to run since.I pulled it apart,to find the exhaust needs cleaned badly, and the engine gaskets need replaced, and the piston has a bad scare, like a burn mark or somethin.Would rebuilding the engine get it running,or what else can i try?And im kind of on a budget for spending a lot of money,so i need something affordable for a repair.Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!!

try looking in the cylinder for more damages to the engine and look at the valves to see if one is chipped sounds like something broke and got inside the cylinder also check the timing you might get bye with just honing the cylinder redo the valves and set your timing then tune it up. p.s.See if you have a spark before you start it up. Good Luck

Since you said there was "burn marks" along the side of the piston it sounds like your rings are stuck or broke. The dark marking on the piston is hot burning gases blowing down into your case, not really a great thing and it will over heat the piston.

Check your cylinder for wear (deep scratches) and be sure the rings move freely in the piston. You might be able to hone the bore, clean it up and install new rings. If the rings are stuck in the piston, the piston has collapsed on the rings and needs to be replaced.

Maybe you are lucky and it just closed up the spark plug gap. check the spark plug or replace it regardless. either way, I would at least replace your piston rings.

Luckily your G5 shares components with the KE100 so parts are pretty available. I wish I could say the same for my old Yamahas.
