HAPPY REPUBLIC DAY TO ALL in advance.
Hi I’m planning to buy a bike by Feb 2010. The bikes that I have short listed are: TVS Apache RTR 180 and Yamaha FZ 16 or FZ-S. After much of surveying and suggestions from people (Friends and Answerers at Yahoo) I have come to this conclusion. I find both of these bike cost almost the same. I personally love Apache however nobody can deny that FZ is the best naked bike available in India.
I have a serious question about FZ.
I see that FZ doesn’t come with a kicker and has only electric start. I stay in Bangalore and when it rains here the roads are all water-clogged…. I want to know from FZ users, who have been using this bike for more than a year or two that;
* Will a bike with no kicker and only ES be a problem in future?
* Has anybody faced this type of problem? [Bike (FZ) stops due to water in the starter motor and you have to push-to-start it]
Any bad experience riding in the rain….
* Does Yamaha give any type of warranty for the starter motor?
I have read a few answers here in Yahoo and I see that people say starting this vehicle in the winter morning is a bit difficult.
I have also seen personally that people generally tend to start their two-wheelers by kick start and not the ES especially in the morning.
What is the case with ES model bikes here?
I will be very happy if I get genuine answers from Yamaha FZ owners. Please no opinions about Bajaj (Not Interested)
To be honest  YAMAHA FZ WITH A KICKER START WOULD BE MY FIRST CHOICE ALWAYS.
Happy and Safe Riding.

With the people who were accustomed with kick started bikes, the problem is that they are bit cautious about the battery condition in addition to the folks at the dealers who pour fuel on the notion that the bike should be kick-started in the morning and then u can use the self starter throughout the day.If this was the case with the self started bikes , car owners should be pushing the cars in the morning !!!!!!!! so just forget about the "advice from your friend" that the bike with kick starter and self starter should be started by kicking. The electrical systems are highly advanced so just forget about the kickstarter for the FZ and go for it. Apache is bit troublesome during manouvering because of the clip-on handle bars which has small leverage compared to the regular handlebar for the FZ... SO go with the FZ without second thaught !!

Consider these facts:

between the FZ, FZ-s and Apache,

Apache 180:

0-60- 4.3 sec

milage: 48-55KMPL

riding: great for quick acceleration and stops.best in its class

reliability: not known yet, but with TVS apache 160 as back ground, i would recommend it

seating: better than FZ for longer rides, but within 2 hrs, it makes no difference

handling: about the handle bars, it is not an issue if you are good at turns.

Both fz and fz-s:

0-60- 5.4 sec

milage:48-54KMPL

riding: looks great, bound to turn heads, comfortable

reliability: warranty of 8 months on battery, 1yr for motor. The self works fine, including on cold or wet mornings. However, you must give battery time between two starts, say 5 min, otherwise it is more likely to drain away.

seating:very comfortable for short rides, but uncomfortable for longer periods

handling:great stops, good handling too.

The motor you are worried about, its not an issue. Just decide whether you want great performance and decent looks and great braking(Apache) or great looks (FZ). Dont let other factors influence you. I would recommend the apache, an all rounder.

To be honest, FZ is quite a HOT bike.. Very naked, very SEXY (in my terms..hehe). By BF owns one,I love it rather more than he and I don't think he had a problem starting it in the morning or at late-nights (Its COLD here).

Is it a nuisance that a girl answers your question?

plus - kick starter bikes are so history,man...haha

there is no problem in fz16's self bcs it has provide large spark to start bike with self easly,u are talking about driving in rainy area so go with fz16 bcs its tyres are quite good and big provide better grip on road,

talking about engine then tvs have better engine then hero honda and bajaj, but not better than yamaha,

so in this prive fz16 yamaha is better option,
