Hi guys, I own apache rtr 180 (white). It is done 910kms on odo. Mileage it gives 40km/ltr.But the major problem i am facing is the bike is giving jerks at 3000-4000rpms in each gear even wen there is more than 3litres of petrol and even in 1ltr also its giving jerks.(JERKS means the bike behaving as that it is not having petrol in tank). It can be clearly feeled .Wen i went to the service and said about the problem they said there is no problem like that .But my mechanic said "the problem wil be in air filter or in engine". So guys can u help where there is a problem in air filter or in engine or why the bike is giving jerks.Have anyone faced this problem. If i need to change air filter means how much it cost? pls give price of air filter. Can i know the duration of air filter in a bike?

Dont ride your bike till the problem is fixed, since the bike is in the run-in period any slightest jerk can affect your bikes engine. And dont take it to your mechanic, only go to tvs service centres (till warranty ends, after that never go there :P)

My advice is just take it to a good tvs service centre and if required shout at them. Ask them to ride the bike and see. If they cant fix it, ask them for a replacement as there's still warranty left on it. Usually they refuses, then report this directly to the tvs head of your zone and he must do the needfull. You can also approach the consumer court if no response and demand for compensation (dont hesitate doing it).

Its not an Air filter problem, airfilter life is around 10,000 kms, you can usually clean and reuse the airfilter w/o much problems if it doesnt have any holes.

Choked air filter/ air passage might not be the reason , coz it occurs only at higher rpms if it was air supply problem. Anyways it might be an airfilter problem, if you have a dead rat in it or u placed something on the airflow passage under your seat.

btw you have your choke turned off ? I once met a guy with an fz16 when i went for my bikes servicing who was riding with his choke on without knowing and his complaint was bike jerking when goin at higher speeds.

Did you do your 1st service ?If not do it asap

For jerks in the engine air filter is not the reason. If air filter blocks you will have other simptons like low fuel average, black smoke from silencer etc., hence let the following items be checked for solving the problem

1. Carburettor to be cleaned and float hight to be set to correct level

2. If spark plug gap is incorrect

3. Check igntion pick up coil inthe magneto

4. Check the fuel supply to the carburettor

i think this not to do with air ilters.Just go to service station and have ur carburrettor cleaned or if its giving problems, just change it.Or there can be a problem with ur spark plug, just take out the spark plug and place it near any metallic body, andgive kick, see whether there are sparks out of it.If there's a ptoblem with the sparks u just need to get rid of ur spark plug.Another possibility is that u can check ur carburrettor setting (i mean check whether have u kept it on max mileage). There can be a problem with it.Simply increase the fuel supply to carburrettor and test ur bike.Bcoz i had a similar problem with my activa and got it solved jst by increasing the fuel supply to engine.

Why don't you check the air filtration system any more. Hopefully it will help to go for jerkless journey.
