its a wr 650 2 stroke, cant get it started right now so i wanted to see if it would start with starter fluid, but i figured that it might not be good for a 2 stroke engine considering they need oil mixed fuel.

Of course. They do it all the time. In fact they are sold at hardware store for lawn mowers and chain saws (2 strokes). People use it on their garden tools for years.

Yes it should be mixed with 2 stroke oil. But as soon as the engine gets started, the oil in the gasoline will lube the running parts.
Few seconds of starter fluid is NOT going to damage the engine.
Good Luck...

It's a better idea to figure out why it's not starting.
Check your battery, coils, plugs, carbs, everything!
It'd be different if it wasn't starting because of a cold climate or something like that, where I might suggest spraying the air filter with some ether, but I don't think that's your case.

pull the plug and squirt in some 2 stroke oil,re-install the plug, give it a shot of either, and try to start it,dont make a habit of it though

It will dilute the lubricant on the internal parts, perhaps wash them bare if you get carried away. also if you get a backfire into the crankcase you will damage the reed valve.

no, it will scare the piston and cylinder wall. It could also damage the piston rings.
