What is a good touring motorcycle that is agile enough for the city?

I guess it all comes down to your personal opinion, but that's fine with me. Right now I have a 2007 Ducati Monster 695 and I really like how light-weight and agile it is, but the mileage is pretty bad. I like the looks of the BMW f800r, but I'm not sure of it as a touring bike.

Now, listen to me carefully. Yes the Harley Davidson touring line is big and really heavy, BUT, the moment you roll on the throttle all that weight virtually disappears. These bikes are incredibly maneuverable, MUCH more than one would expect. Don't believe me, check out some police motorcycle course videos on Youtube. It's incredible. Or even better, see about demoing one.

You can tour on *any* motorcycle. You should be getting about 45-50 mpg with your Duck, about the same on a BMW. A big touring bike gets less mileage than my wife's New Beetle.

Lesser means more mileage. My Savage is 20 pounds lighter than your Duck, a little slower, but I get 50 mpg in the city (I have *fun*) and 60-65 mpg on Tour. Touring I use my saddlebags, a 21" suitcase, and camping gear: http://jagerkin.com/1000miles.jpg

You can, and many people have, tour on a 150cc Vespa.

What kind of touring bike? My BMW GS1000 and my Honda VFR both have good hard-bags and tour nicely and are very agile for bigger bikes. But I've done alot more touring when I was young and poor and just road what I had without the luxury of hardbags. Just strap stuff on and go.

I had a chance to try out the Victory Cross Country, and really liked it as an around-town vehicle that would do very well of course for touring. These are all 106 engines, very powerful yet very comfortable, and (to me) stylish looking.
