I have a 1980 KZ440 that has a pretty well rebuilt engine on it. How ever I believe I need to sync the carbs. By the way I did not rebuild the engine, if I could do that I would be able to sync the carbs which brings me to my question. I would like to learn how to sync the carbs put can't find any helpful videos or anything online, anyone have a suggestion? I may or may not try to sync the Carbs myself depending on how hard it looks and how much I could F-up the bike. Any help would be great

Thanks

You will need a manometer and they are easy to make yourself. Get some plastic tubing from your local hardware store and get to it.

Three of your carbs have adjustments but 1 doesn't. This is the baseline carb. You need to adjust the other 3 to match the non-adjustable baseline carb.

Make sure that you have a repair manual and join the Vintage Kawasaki owners forum for lots of FREE knowledge, advice and parts!

There was an ebay seller in the UK selling a really simple but effective device, it was a plastic loop with ends long enough to connect to your carbs this had small steel ball in it, you hung up the loop with the ball on the center mark, each end was then connected to vacuum outlet on two carbs (using the adapters supplied) when the engine was started and running at about 1000 rpm the ball rolled either to one side or the other up the loop, you adjusted one carb until the ball was central in the tube again, remove one end of the connection and put it on the next carb adjust this to the same setting as the first, carry on and all carbs will match each other.

It was simple and not expensive, i was sceptical so i bought one, it worked perfectly.

you need to buy a set of gauges,MOTION PRO makes a decent set for about 120 dollars. There are two types, murcury gauges which are more acurate but you have to be careful not to suck the murcury into the motor! There is also dial gauges which I would recomend to someone who has never done this before. The screw that you have to turn to adjust the carbs is allways in the middle of the bank of carbs so you also need a long angled driver,I got mine from snap on for 90 bucks. As for actually synching the carbs the gauges come with directions. Its actually a simple procedure.

you need special tool to do that and you need someone to teach what to you,im thinking the old bikes they used vacuum gauges to sync the carbs.

basics...

you use vacuum gauges..

then you adjust the linkage between the carbs to balance out the readings...

there is lots of info on the next, search carb synchronising..
