I have a 95 Virago 250 Cal. model. Is there any way to get rid of the fuel pump and add a vertical carb instead of the stock. make the bike not regulated by california emission laws. any info about the bike would be appreciated. Thanks

Anything can be done but for what you would spend, get a better bike. Even after you complete the task, you still have a slug.

Now go drink a beer and relax.

As far as the California motorcycle emission standards, in the 1980's it normally amounted to there being a charcoal canister to catch the fuel tank fumes, something that's found on nearly every car on the road these days. In the 90s, it may have also included a catalytic converter located inside the mufflers or exhaust system. The canister does not effect performance or fuel economy and neither does the converter. So don't worry about those things. There may be other minor differences in the CA models such as possibly valve timing, but that wasn't so with my '84 Kaw.

Why do you want to get rid of the fuel pump? Have you had repeated problems with it? Try to change carbs and there's a good chance you will spend a lot of money and not gain any power but instead gain problems with flat spots, misfiring, poor fuel economy and so on. If your bike is like many emission controlled bikes, it runs way too lean at small throttle openings. If so, adjusting the pilot jet screw should help. It may be hidden under a plastic or aluminum plug to keep you from messing with it. Often times richening up the idle mix is all it takes to make the bike run like a champ.

I have a 1994 Yamaha V-max and had something similar to what your saying!

It can be done as long as you got the money!

With money, anything is possible!
