If you can pull the rope through a complete cycle and the motor is not locked up i would think broken piston rod or crank. Craigslist is the cheapest way to find a used motor.

Check your starter drive- the pawl teeth may not be engaging the crank sprocket- this means simple starter clutch repair instead of new engine. I have a 4 hp Tecumseh engine on tiller and have had to disassemble, clean and reset the little teeth/fingers a couple times to get it to start over past 5 years. Whole pull start assembly was about $25.00 at the time but was only about 1/2 hour to fix- just part of spring maintenance along with carb bowl clean. To check if starter problem instead of rod broke- go to output shaft and turn it with vise grip and see if piston moves- if it does then inside is likely OK and the flywheel side at key way or starter is problem- likely cheap fix but a hours time after you check out repair manual at library.

I have to go with either a broken crank, connecting rod or a bad key in the shaft.
Some times it is just cheaper to replace the complete unit.
E-bay might have some for sale.
If you know details about the engine, may be Burdens Surplus Center can help. The web site is: https://www.surpluscenter.com/engines.asp?catname=engines.
They have access to a lot of lawn equipment and generator engines because of the number of places around Lincoln Nebraska that construct such units. They do have a 5.5 HP Tecumseh engine (horizontal shaft) at least at the site- https://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?item=28-1740&catname=engines

If the crank is spinning and the piston is not moving you broke the piston rod, not all that uncommon on a Junkumpseh, if your from the US then Harbor Freight is the only way to fly, there 212cc Predator normally sells for around $119 in store, on sale as low as $99, and believe it or not there every bit as good as a Honda,
The crank spins due to the combustion in the cylinder pushing down on the piston. The crank spinning turns the cam which opens the valves to let in the gasoline that fires and causes the piston to move

its junk, the rod broke. you might get away with a new rod, but i seriously doubt it.
