Sure, they used to be a manufacture's ID. Hence Kawasaki had "K"x's, Yamaha had "Y"x's, and Honda had"C"r's, hmmm. Suzuki had "R"x's, nope that dog don't hunt either.

Well, best I can tell ya is, Kawasaki's, and Yamaha's were letter designations from their names. Where Honda and Suzuki got theirs, I can't help you with.

They probably mean something to the manufacturer, like a series of similar style models or something, but I don't think they are inteded to translate into anything for the general public.
