I'm thinking about buying my first street bike. I used to race motocross for 10 years and now my interests have gone to cars. I'm a bigger guy, 300 lbs- but have been losing lots of weight and hope to be smaller in the next 8 months. I'm just wondering if a Honda CBR 250 or a Ninja 250 would be enough to move me on the freeway at 70+ mph and the suspension would be good enough. I plan to just drive it around town or maybe 30-50 miles freeway at the most.

Thanks

Mike

no you need a bigger bike for sure. You will look like a monkey having sex with a foot ball on that little bike.'

EDIT : HAHAHA What is with all people and your love your a little 250 cc bike. ?

Telling this big guy that wants to 70mph on the freeway that a little 250 cc bike would be PERFECT for him ? Why do want to get on Answers and flat out LIE to someone like that ? Why ? What is your motive?

Not only is a 250 too small for him. It would be down right dangerous for him to be riding on a freeway with other cars on such an underpowered and undersized bike !

Get a grip ! you people that love your little 250 cc bikes . But a 250 in no way would be what Michael needs ! he needs a much larger bike than your little toy motorcycle.

Also Michael, you should know that at least 1/2 the answers are from people that have never even had a M/C. hahaha

You need to get at least in the range of 600 cc for street bike. Not a crotch rocket sport bike . They are not comfortable . A street cruiser bike .. If you by a little 250cc , in about 3 or 4 weeks you will be kicking youself in the behind asking " Why did i buy this little bike ? " Believe me , a 600cc street bike is NOT a big bike at all.

But a 250 is a tiny street bike , and for you way too tiny ! You get on the freeway with a toy like that and you will remember what i told you..

I rode bikes all my life , i would be scared to death to get on a freeway on a 250 cc toy M/C. I think you would be increasing your odds of getting kiiled or worse on

a little tiny 250 on the freeway . Especially at your size. That is just crazy !

The Honda CBR250 has a max load capacity of 450lbs. It was intended for a rider of 250 lbs carrying a passenger of 200lbs. You by yourself will not put the bike over its max load capacity. But, if you carry a passenger over 150 lbs you will. The bike is rated at 25.5 hp. Which is enough to take you to 80 mph easily. Although it will be lacking on the freeway it is capable. But, around town it will be an ideal bike. Rated at 80 mpg and fuel injected it will give you years of reliable operation. I would not recommend the Ninja 250. It is carbureted and rated at 50 mpg. Although it is 26hp making it the king of hp of the 250's. It has half the service life of the Honda. The Honda is designed to run 100,000 miles with scheduled maintenance. The ninja is only designed to run 50,000 miles. But, if you have the money go for the new Ninja 300. With a modern design it will last 100,000 miles like the Honda. But, for that extra 50cc you go up to 35 hp.

The world doesn't ends on Ninja's and CBR's. You should've mention your height as its also an important factor to consider before choosing a bike...

Anyhow, I've made a list of bikes that are still in production, easy enough for a beginner (preferabily slightly experienced) and costs under $10,000 brand new:

TU250X, GW250 Inazuma, DR200SE, DRZ400S/SM, DR650SE, GS500F, SV650S, SFV650 Gladius, DL650 V-Strom, S40, S50, M50, CBR250/300/500/650R, CB300/500/650F, CB500X, CB1100/EX, CRF230/250L, XR650L, NC700/750X, Rebel 250, V-Star 250/650 Custom, YZF-R25, Shadow 650/750, SR400, TW200, XT250, WR250R, FZ6R, MT/FZ07, V-Star 950, Star Bolt 950, KLX250S, Ninja 300/650R, Versys 650, KLR650, Vulcan 500/900, Hyosung GT250/650, GTR250/650R, GV250/650, SYM WOLF 150/250, Royal Enfield 500 (Trails, Electra, Bullet, C5, G5, Continental GT), G650GS, G650 Sertao, F700GS, Husquvarna TR650 Terra/Strada, TE 310/449/511, Triumph America, Speedmaster, Bonvillie Base/SE/T100/Scrambler/Thruxton, Daytona 250/Street Single 250, Harley Davidson Street 500/750/ Sportster 883/1200, Moto Guzzi V7 Classic/Cafe/Racer, Ural Solo 750, Ducati Monster 696, Aprilia Shiver/Dorosudro 750, Mana 850GT, KTM 690 (Duke, SMT, Enduro), 350/500 EXC, RC200/390, Beta RS 400/450/520.

Look them all up before buying anything. I've left scooters and Chinese junk in the list, the rest is there.

May I interest you in a Triumph T100??? Looks ace and is powerful enough to handle your weight at highway speeds. Not to mention has a fire axe reliability and are simple enough to wrench it yourself. Fairly cheap in the used market too.

No.. Even a 150lb would be wrapping the engine at those speeds. you may need something like a 600 for freeway. around town less than 40 yeah it would work but not for long those 250 also sit on a smaller frame so if you are taller you'll look like an idiot on a scooter..

The ninja handles two up freeway riding. It really isn't big enough for you if you plan on doing a lot of long distance highway riding.
