....NONE...

a CBT is simply basic training on the bike...pull away, stop, balance etc....nothing to do with road signs...they come in your theory test.

A CBT certificate is issued once the instructor is satisfied that you are competent on the road.

You start the course with an eye test, reading a number plate from 20m away

Then you do some classroom highway code stuff. I got asked to draw a few different road signs (one of them being toads on road :D). Two of the 4 in my class room got about 2 out of 10, but still passed, as it was all explained and they were happy with it.

Afterwards you do some training round cones etc... braking, balance, clutch slipping etc...

Then you are taken onto the road.

In summary you could probably get away ith very minimal knowledge, though for a safe bet, i'd do a half hour swat up, because they will come in handy at some stage!

Of course some CBTers will be more strict than others..

The CBT is not a test of knowledge; it is basic instruction in the art of motorcycling. You cannot fail a CBT, despite what others have said. You must reach what your instructor considers to be a safe standard - some people do it in a day some take more.

It would be a great help to you and your instructor if you read and understand the Highway Code before CBT. That way you will have less to learn on the day and be able to concentrate more on riding the bike and having FUN.

A CBT is not seen as a test but pre pairing you for the road with basic controls and ways of the road.

To progress to anything higher you will have to learn the high way code why not start know and get the theory question book which includes signs. You could be asked anything.

A CBT is not a test it's more of a course, you *cannot* fail it and anything you don't know you are told on the course but an at least basic level of highway code knowledge is advisable to be deemed safe.

There is never a point in a CBT where you give a wrong answer and you fail, you will just be instructed on what is correct.

CBT isnt a test is Compulsary Basic training.

You get the certificate once you have met the standard.

So if you pick up the requirements within the day youll get it then, or youll come back again and youll practice on what your not so good on.

You should learn your Highway code. Technically you should know EVERYTHING in the book, even rules for other uses of the highways.

The CBT will teach you about your bike, how to operate it, how to do manuevers, and how to use it on the road. The trainig is about helping you to start off on a good safe footing.

Yes you can fail it and was told by my instructor that if not for the fact that I had lessons with him for the rest of the week he would have asked me to do the CBT again.

First time I had even sat on a bike and as I weighed twice the bike weight I did not feel confident on it and that showed.

As for sign they expect you to know the signs in the highway code. i.e stop signs, give way signs, speed signs etc etc after all after getting your CBT you will be expected to ride safely and considerately on the road.

Have fun doing your CBT, its not a test its training and all they want to see is your confident and knowledgeable about the road.

It's not really a test, well the classroom part isn't. It's just an informal chat about how to handle yourself on the road, what protective gear to wear ect.

They can ask you what any signs means, it doesn't really matter if you get them wrong. As long as your riding is up to scratch in the afternoon session you'll pass.
