Is Kawasaki Ninja 250 a good beginner bike for a girl?

All of my guy friends have bikes and I ride with them, but whenever I mention getting my own they say that I am too small. I am 5'1 and weigh 120lbs; I have heard that the Ninja 250r is a good smaller bike for beginners. Would this bike be a good starter bike for me?

Idiots! Saying you can't ride - HA! Show them!

First check: http://cycle-ergo.com/ You can barely stand on the Ninja, you will be tippy toes, difficult to hold it up at a stop. You will find that a cruiser, with it's low saddle, would be far better -- you can hold the bike at a stop with your feet solidly flat on ground. Strength is not needed -- technique will suffice. You can easily put a dropped bike back on it's wheels.

But it is easier to ride a lighter bike, which is why I ride my big single. Normally people will suggest you start with one of the 250cc class cruisers, the Honda Rebel, Yamaha V-star, Suzuki GZ250 -- all easy, all low, all at about 330 pounds wet.

But since all your guy friends ride, I would suggest my bike, the Suzuki LS650, Savage or S40 depending on the year. It is just 50 pounds heavier than the 250's, but with a 652cc single cylinder engine. It is not a fast motorcycle, only 30 hp, top speed about 85 mph -- fast enough on any legal street and 10-15 mph more. But it has torque, lots of low speed torque. Torque is what accelerates you at the green light. When the signal changes you will be across the intersection than any multi upto 1000cc. Tell you too small?! THEY are too big and heavy and SLOW (off the line.)

Depends what kind of girl you're trying to impress. Lets face it, a girl who knows her bikes and is into riding herself can tell if you're a noob on a 600 or a 250, so why bother right now. You're prob pretty young like me (I'm 18, got my motorcycle license right after my drivers license at 16.1). My dad made me ride our 1987 rebel 250 for a while before letting me move on to a bigger bike. To be honest, it was more fun when girls approached me on the rebel than on the YZF600R. They'd be like..."wow nice bike". And I could reply with the fact that it was a beginners bike...or sometimes even call it a grandma bike. Its alot more fun to joke around about it than to hide behind the power of a supersport that you don't know how to use. So in conclusion, get the 250. Its cheap, fun, and forgiving. But seriously, those ninja 250s hold their value. When you're tired of it, you don't lose much of an investment. Also, if you're planning on getting those girls by showing off speed, all 27 horsepower of the Ninja's engine rocket you to 60mph in 6 seconds (providing you are a somewhat decent shifter). Thats more than plenty to beat the captain of the football team's civic out of the parking lot.

In the US, the ninja 250 is just about the smallest bike for sale that can still attain highway speeds. Frankly, it's a good first bike for just about anyone.

You're pretty short, but you only need to have 1 foot on the ground at a time. And you can easily have the bike lowered by swapping the stock "dog bones" for lowering links. If your friends are remotely mechanically inclined, they should be able to help you do this in about 20 minutes. It's easy enough that I would offer to do it FOR YOU if you lived reasonably close.

Buy a used 250 to save money. Then if you do drop it, it won't be a huge deal to you. Or just don't drop it... My wife dropped the bike twice (that I know of) while she was learning. My brother has never dropped his. No comment on my learning experience :-)

So to give a direct answer to your question, YES, a ninja 250 would be a fine first bike.

It would not be a good begginers bike for you. Because you are 5'1" and the ninja 250 has a seat height of 30.5 inches. Measure your inseam with shoes on. Then, look for a bike that has a seat height that is less than your inseam. This way you can sit on the bike and plant both feet on the ground. The Honda Rebel has the lowest seat height of all the 250's. 26inches. But, the Yamaha v-star has a seat height of 27 inches. Most of the v-stars have a seat height of 27 inches.

its a nice bike to start with but it also depends on what driving conditions u live

and what for u will be using the bike 600 are nice on corners but the 250r is more lighter

and will hang much faster from one side to another

u can try to buy a old 250 and ride it for 1 month and then u can always say nah i want a 600

or its to slow ect ect and i wanna go on a 600

Girls like any motorcycle. Most of the time, they have no clue about the type, size, brand, etc. If they do know bikes and see you on a 250, at least they know you aren't some stupid squid. Learning on a 250 shows that you are a responsible, intelligent rider who knows his limits. Only squid chicks like squids, so who wants one of those.

for a first bike I think not! go for some thing a bit smaller, be careful you do not get a bike that is to heavy for you, you need to be able to control it, not the other way round, if it has to much weight behind it or power, when it goes wrong it could throw you off, start small and when you have the grip of riding, then get something bigger, I know girls on 750cc and they know how to ride and small is were they started too. you just do not have the body weight for a big bike with your limited skill level

just remember, if you go wrong on a bike it will hurt big time or worries
