in a couple of years the most, i would like to buy a motorcycle to cruise around the country. now i was told an ENDURO type is better fo this than a chopper, because it's much more comfortable on long roads but i still like to stick to a chopper. now, what would you suggest for me, as somebody who has never owned a motorcycle before? for about 2,000 euros i found the Honda Shadow and the Yamaha Virago. which one is better? i am thinking about 250 cc versions as a beginner...

Are the roads in good repair? I have a 1985 Yamaha Virago 700. Great on roads which are in good shape, gets about 45 mpg, so the range is about 95 miles.

If the roads are not in good shape, my Virago hits bottom on the rear suspension. NOT FUN. If the roads you'll be traveling have been indifferently patched, you should probably get an Enduro style motorcycle. Some people report good results with an almost-Enduro like the Suzuki V-Strom 650 -- I haven't tried one of these.

Im a big Honda fan. I own two Honda cx500, 80 custom, 79 deluxe. I like them both. I have a friend who rides a Honda Shadow. Its a 2007 I believe. They ride nicely down the road, are comfy and dont drink all that much fuel, unless you beat it up some. If you are looking for good cruiser, I would go with either of the Shadows. Good luck

Firsr of all niether one of these is a chopper!! A chopper is a bike with a RIDGID frame OPEN primary NO front brake, NO turn signals, and No electric start. And sometimes a suicide shift. Now the Virago is a tougher bike with a bulletproof bottom end, and very simple to maintain and work on.While the Honda is probably faster. As for comfort they are about equal.

.I believe Shadow begins at 400cc in Europe. I also believe the style you call "chopper" is called "cruiser" in the US. Wife and I have ridden Honda cruisers and street bikes for a lot of years.

We have a new rider in our family and just put her on a 250cc Virago. I rode the bike at 70 mph into a headwind with plenty of juice left. Its a very good, good-looking small cruiser. It surprised me.

Enduro is not suitable for touring.

I prefer Hondas, because they look nicer, run forever, are easier to fix, get better mileage, etc. You may want to start a little bigger than a 250, maybe around 450. Yamaha and Suzuki are at the bottom of my list.

Try a night hawk, those are also small and good first bikes.

the shadow is better mechanicly, and dont wory about the size, as it is not too big for beginners.

the virago is nice, but you will quickly outgrow it, especially if you go on highways.

ride safe!!!
