I am changing the rectifier on my 1999 SV 650s and wonder if anyone can tell me where it is located on the bike? Also, does the regulator often fail on these bikes?

Thanks!

there quite common to fail on most bikes...not versed on yours...designe wise they normaly all lookthe same...smallish square alloy with fins and one multiplug in it....they get hot so arnt connected to plastic...looc on the front fairing/clock bracket and under the seat on one of the frame tubes...

the r/r is on the right side under the tail fairing. if you look at the rear brake pedal and follow the hydraulic line up to the reservoir, it is right next to it.

the r/r can fail on bikes with lots of highway mileage, since it has to dissipate all of the wasted electricity generated by riding at high rpms as heat. you can interchange the r/r with one from any suzuki, I think the one from the gsxr's or bandit 1200 is more durable.

Why are you changing the rectifier?

If you don't know where it is, how did you test it to determine if it is defective?

The regulator & rectifier are incorporated into one component.

The easiest part to check in the charging system is the stator.

Consult a service manual to test the charging system.
