I need a flywheel puller. I don't know what specs, Yamaha dealer tells me he needs a part number, I have hours invested cruising e-bay hoping I might find one.

Does anyone know the part number or where to go/ who to talk to ?Thanks a bunch. Pauleywag.

You need to find a Yamaha dealer who knows something about Yamahas.

That's the "Oldest Puller in the Book" and practically universal among Jap Magnetos

Yamaha has a part number:

90890-01148-00

(****that's so old it may be superceded by newer number now??)

27mm x1mm Left Hand Thread

..............................

You can buy them much cheaper than from Yamaha,,,from a bunch of different places.

Including Ebay, any BikeParts/Accessory store or website

...........................................

Ohh,,I knew I shoulda checked

New Yamaha Part Number is 90890-01189

Also available @ Yamaha Marine dealers

Are there threads in the center indent of the flywheel (where the nut is)?

Use this puller -

Pick - Offroad Catalog

Go to - Index - Flywheel Pullers - pg830 - #15-0608 (top right)

Talk to one of the mech I use a slide hammer and adapters but kinda pricey for 1 job

If its open enough you could also use a 3 jaw puller

stay away from yamaha dealers, i haven't had much luck with the kids they put at the parts counter. they don't know much about anything that i've ever seen. i've gotten strange advice as well as inability to find parts for anything that isn't current year.

and yeah i know that's not an answer it looks like you got what you needed. just wanted to let you know you're not alone with yamaha dealers telling you that you need part numbers for them to look anything up. descriptions and exact part names don't work, go figure.

edit: my apologies to those who do know what's going on, unfortunately, i haven't had a good experience yet when i've had to resort to a dealer.

i have pulled 1,000,000,000 flywheels and used a puller maybe twice- loosen the nut till its past the threads on the shaft by 1 or 2 threads, pry outward on the flywheel with 2 screwdrivers or prybars opposite each other, then smack the nut with a BRASS hammer- 2 or 3 sharp smacks and the flywheel will pop right off. some heat on the flywheel right near the shaft will help if necessary.
